Medicine & Marketing - They Have More in Common Then You Think

I'm in the first week of doing a 21-day cleanse based on the New York Times bestselling book The UltraSimple Diet from one of the leaders in the burgeoning field of functional medicine - Dr. Mark Hyman - and it got me thinking.  The other night after one of the ultra-relaxing evening baths I asked myself what do medicine, specifically functional medicine. and marketing have in common?  Everything, as it turns out.

Functional medicine emphasizes treating a patient holistically.  This 360 degree look at a patient allows a doctor to get to the root cause of a disease, as opposed to just treating the symptoms, which happens with traditional medicine.  When working with my clients to develop integrated marketing and pr campaigns I also take this  multifaceted approach.  When meeting with potential clients I'll ask questions about business goals and how they  define success.  I'll also ask other questions about their business and operations to help me fully understand them in a way that might not seem immediately relevant to marketing/pr.  In reality those questions increase my knowledge of their business and their possibly unrealized needs.  They also help me develop a strategic plan that is realistic and can be implemented in a timely manner. Thereby creating results that have a direct, positive impact on their business.

Which leads me to ask, what can you start doing today to take a more holistic approach with your business?
